Rights Georgia Has Started Providing Free-of-charge Legal Assistance for Stateless Persons

09 Jul, 2020

From July 2020, Rights Georgia, with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will provide free-of-charge legal assistance to persons who wish to obtain the status of a stateless person in Georgia.

A stateless person is an individual who is not considered a citizen by any State. By granting the status of a stateless person, an individual is also granted a residence permit, which opens the possibility to live and work in Georgia, use the State offered services, or obtain a travel passport.

Within the framework of the project, Rights Georgia will provide stateless persons with free-of-charge legal aid and legal assistance, including representation in administrative bodies and courts.

Since 2019, Rights Georgia has also been implementing a project supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which supports the organization in assisting asylum seekers and humanitarian and refugee status holders in Georgia.
